This Winnebago Travato 59g Upgrade will change the entire look of the kitchen!!!
If you have ever seen the inside of a Winnebago Travato 59g, one of the first things you notice is the shiny, silver, corrugated refrigerator. I did see a few Travato modification posts and videos that showed owners flipping the panel over to make the refrigerator solid black, but I wanted something more aesthetically pleasing. In search of a simply DIY solution, I went to Amazon for help! Being fulltime in my Travato, I love ordering from Amazon because I can have the package delivered to a locker anywhere in the country. I just have to know the city I will be in next and send the package to an Amazon locker in that area. Comfortable, earth tone, farmhouse decor is currently in my campervan so I was looking for something to go with that. I found these wood vinyl wall decals for less than $20 and I knew they would be perfect for this upgrade.

How I transformed my 59g refrigerator to rustic farmhouse style!
I started the process by washing the refrigerator door with soap and water. After it dried, I wiped it down with rubbing alcohol to remove any residue. The RoomMates peel and stick decals come in a box of 16 panels, varying in color from light to dark. I cut the vinyl sheets of wood pieces into strips, so I could lay them out in the pattern I liked best. Once all pieces were applied, I only had 1 strip of wood left, so you have to be careful if you want to get this done with one box.

When cutting the wood strips I used a ruler/straight edge to make sure they would all line up flush. Starting at the top of the refrigerator, I worked my way down. Notice how I cut the planks in various sizes and staggered them to give a random appearance. Using a credit card/gift card, smooth out any bubbles or ripples as you apply the sticker. I varied the base color of the wood to add variety and dimension, but you could also try to apply in an ombre effect. Going from light to dark or dark to light wood can give an interesting visual effect. When cutting the strips that will be flush with the edge of the fridge, I cut it a little longer, so I could tuck the excess under the edge of the fridge frame -see second picture below.
As I continued down the refrigerator, I was already noticing a big change. Here is a picture of it halfway done.
You can see the significant difference between the wood look vs the shiny silver. Make sure you are lining the planks up vertically and horizontally so there are no visible gaps. Below is a picture to show what the decals look like at the bottom of the doors. Use the same technique for cutting as on the sides. Leave a little excess to tuck into the bottom frame.
The finished look!
There you have it, the Winnebago Travato 59g upgrade. The entire process took less than an hour and a half. The vinyl wood sheets have been on the fridge for a few weeks now. I have wiped it down several times with a damp cloth and haven’t noticed any peeling or separation of the sticker from the fridge. The varying color and tones of the vinyl wood helps blend the dark color cabinet, that holds my Berkey water purifier , with the light color of the Travato cabinets.
I was so happy with the way this turned out and how it elevated my space , making it feel more warm, cozy and customized. This makeover inspired me to upgrade the bathroom. I will posting the total redo of the 59G bathroom soon. Thank you to everyone reading the blog and supporting me on this journey.
